Ski Patrol Competition in Austria
Szöveg: Fruzsina Kresz | 2019. február 11. 14:09The team of the HDF vitéz Szurmay Sándor Budapest Garrison Brigade (MH BHD) participated this year in the ski patrol competition organised recently in Austria.
The first day – after taking the equipment and the weapons – was spent with track inspection, preparation and practice. The individual competition was not just about skiing downhill: the contestants had to overcome hundreds of meters high gradients along the 6,5-kilometre-long track, and in addition to that throwing hand grenades and firing rifles were also included among the events. In the individual competition of the international teams WO Imre Szombathelyi won the best place from among the Hungarians: he finished 14th, thus improving his last year’s result by more than fifteen minutes.
In the team-competition, the team had to move together on an 8,3-kilometre-long track, which had even larger ground differences. Despite the fact that it is hard to prepare in Hungary for such a winter challenge, the Hungarian soldiers have much improved even in this category compared to their last year’s performance. Although they failed to reach the podium, they finished the competition with a fair result – ranking in the middle, and they attempt to overcome the Austrian hills with a new objective next year.
