The students who graduated in 2012 from the National University of Public Service, Faculty of Military Sciences and Officer Training, the Institute of Disaster Management and the Institute of National Security received their diplomas in the ‘Miklós Zrínyi’ Barracks, Budapest in the morning of July 14.

Dr. Gábor Szarka, the Cabinet Chief of the Ministry of Defence also attended the event. After the national anthem was played, Dr. András Patyi, the rector of the National University of Public Service (NUPS) greeted the graduates. In his short speech he said that the main external proof of the existence of a university is that it issues diplomas, and thereby certifies that the students receiving them have acquired the necessary knowledge and passed their exams. This year 334 students completed their final examinations with success, so after the work done, they have the joy and the glory, Dr. András Patyi pointed out.

The rector noted that the word “Bachelor" (baccalaureate) means “the one with laurel wreath". “Some of you will remain university students to obtain the MSc degree. But wherever your road leads you, do not sit on your freshly received laurels because they mark the starting point of your studies rather than their end point. As the old saying goes, ‘If you’re sitting on your laurels you’re wearing them in the wrong place’", he added.

András Patyi recalled that the graduates of 2012 had acquired the bulk of their knowledge at one of the legal predecessors of the NUPS, the ‘Miklós Zrínyi’ National Defence University, but over the recent period they were studying under the aegis of the common slogan of the new institution: A haza szolgálatában (“In the service of the homeland"). “May this slogan accompany you in your whole lifetime, and may you be proud of being among the first graduates of the university. We are proud of you" – he said. He thanked the parents for supporting the students, and also thanked the students for remaining loyal to the new institution despite the difficulties arising from the changes and for behaving as patient, understanding students throughout the period of transformation. He wished the graduates every success in achieving their goals and much happiness.

The commencement ceremony followed with the presentation of the diplomas, then Maj. Árpád Tajti said thanks on behalf of the students to the university teachers and the parents.
