The Victims of the Hejce Air Disaster Remembered in Kosovo
Szöveg: 1st Lt. Béla Papp | 2014. január 26. 6:08The gravest catastrophe of the history of the Slovak Armed Forces, the Hejce Air Disaster and the victims were remembered in Kosovo. In the commemorations – upon the request of the Liaison Office of the Slovak Republic in Pristina – the soldiers of the ninth Rotation of the HDF KFOR Contingent participated with a guard of honour.

In the first part of the series of commemoration ceremonies the employees of the Liaison Office of the Slovak Republic in Pristina and of the Embassy of Hungary in Kosovo bowed their heads and laid wreaths at the monument standing at the water works situated near the one-time Czech and Slovak Military camp. Namely, this camp used to be the base of the Slovak peacekeepers killed in the aircraft accident during their mission in Kosovo. Their tasks contained i.a. the protection of the water works supplying the majority of the population of Kosovo with drinking water.
The Head of the Slovak Office Henrik Markuš, and on behalf of the Hungarian Embassy Vice-Ambassador Dr. István Sipos and First Secretary Imre Vékás-Kovács paid tribute to the memory of the victims during the arrangement.
Monument at the KFOR Headquarters
At the same time, another commemoration was held in memory of the Slovak soldiers at the KFOR Headquarters, at the monument located in Camp “Film City", Pristina. During the arrangement, wreaths were laid by the Ambassador of Hungary in Kosovo, Lóránt Balla, Commander of KFOR Major General Salvatore Farina, and by the Representative of the Czech Embassy among others.
