This Has Happened in Iraq in January

The service of the soldiers working in the seventh rotation of the HDF Iraqi Training Support Contingent (HTSC-7) was diversified with several events in January.

The contingent celebrated the old year with a special running: at 20:18 o’clock, on the evening of 31st December, all the servicemen of the contingent serving in Erbil entered the 2019 m long distance in formation, thus bidding farewell to the year 2018, and welcoming the New Year.

In early January the Commander of the Contingent and the Army Chaplain visited the Marya Mana School, which was built as part of the Hungary Helps Program. The Headmaster of the school informed the guests about the operation of the institution, then the Hungarian soldiers could get a glimpse into the everyday life of the students, to whom they gave parcels consisting writing and drawing instruments, and English language books on Hungary. The publications will enrich the school library.

On 12th January, on the anniversary of the Don Disaster, the Hungarian soldiers serving in Iraq commemorated the heroes with a candle-lighting ceremony. The Army Chaplain held the memorial service. At the end of January Major General Cristopher Ghika, the Deputy Commander of Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) visited the contingent. Following the discussions with the leaders of the Contingent, the General presented accolades to the Hungarian soldiers.
