Since her appointment, the US ambassador has already visited the units in Pápa and Kecskemét, and this time she received information about the HDF 34th “Bercsényi László" Special Forces Battalion.
The guests first observed a static display of the military equipment of the battalion, and then the soldiers of the unit demonstrated the execution of a special operation. According to the simulated mission, the paratroopers and soldiers of the operational detachment alphas (ODAs) inserted by helicopters had to obtain information of strategic importance from the enemy.
During the operation, a rapid reaction platoon of the HDF 88th Airmobile (Light Infantry) Battalion provided perimeter security to prevent possible infiltration or counterattacks. Meanwhile the troops of the ODA approached the objective, eliminated the resistance group and after collecting the information left the area with SPIE rope extraction technique.
This type of capability is a requirement in the Afghanistan theatre and has key importance in the defence of the country as well.
After the demonstration, Colleen Bell spoke highly the capabilities of Hungarian troops and the cooperation between the American and Hungarian special operations forces.
