In answer to our question at the opening of the event, István Simicskó said that Hungarian athletes have always been very successful in various competitions, so it is no accident that Hungary has a prestigious ranking in the Olympic medal table too. “At the same time, it is not enough to say of ourselves that we are a sport-loving nation. We also have to do sports regularly, so we can live a more healthy life", he emphasized, adding that it is through sports and fair play that one can understand the rules of respectful coexistence.

The minister called it important to make sure that the soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces also participate in the growing number of sport events held in Hungary because their fitness and physical stamina are very important aspects. “We are working to provide soldiers with opportunities to compete in sports events. And, as far as I can tell, they are pleased to have these opportunities indeed", Dr. István Simicskó said. These events are also a great occasion for further developing our relations with the Visegrád Four countries, the minister added. Sports events usually generate considerable interest; for example, more than 1200 people entered the present championship organized by the Hungarian Triathlon Union and Budapestman, of whom some 72 serve in the Hungarian Defence Forces.
