The Hungarian peacekeepers serving in Pristina, Kosovo also commemorated the All Souls’ Day. The personnel of the HDF KFOR Contingent lit candles in the chapel of Camp Slim Lines.

The evening service in the camp began with Evangelical Pastor Capt. Endre László Nánai’s moving speech. The captain talked about the meaning of the celebration, and noted that the Hungarian Defence Forces commemorate the fallen comrades on this occasion, because remembrance can bring the past to life, and we light candles for our departed loved ones.

In his speech, the pastor pointed out that remembrance is one of mankind’s most ancient and important concepts. In fact, our whole human existence is about remembering “where we came from and where we are going". We remember those two gates or passageways through which we arrived in this world and through which we will leave it one day. Of course, true remembrance would search not only in the head but also in the widest place, the heart: that is where our loved ones and the departed are. This is not about death any more, but is rather living memory itself.

With his moving words, Capt. Nánay opened the gates of the chapel wide to the commemorators. The silent audience filled the chapel. The gates were kept open to receive the Hungarian and Portuguese troops all through the night, so that they can pay their tributes from the faraway Pristina too, and be together with their loved ones in their minds.
