Commemorating the Heroes in Sarajevo
Szöveg: Maj. Róbert Gubisi | 2012. június 11. 16:15The staff of the NATO Headquarters Sarajevo (NHQ Sa) commemorated the heroes at a joint ceremony held on May 28.
The memorial ceremony of heroes takes place in Hungary on the last Sunday of May every year, while the heroes of the US military are commemorated on the last Monday of every May (Memorial Day).
The soldiers serving at NHQ Sa paid a joint tribute to the victims of the two nations who had been killed in action in war. Brig.-Gen. Gary E. Huffman, commander opened the ceremony. In addition to the participants, he greeted with special respect Patrick S. Moon, the US ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In his memorial speech, the brigadier-general pointed out that the true heroes are those soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace by giving their life for it.
At the end of the commemorative event, the ambassador and the commander unveiled and laid wreaths at the memorial plaque to the heroes’ memory.
As the last moment of the ceremony, Brig.-Gen. Péter Ernő Siposs, the Chief of Staff at the EUFOR HQ in Sarajevo and Col. (Eng.) Ferenc Kovács, the Chief of Staff at NHQ Sa paid their tribute to the victims.
