Ambassadorial invitation, ceremonial staff meeting, Hungarian-style dinner. The 56th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and War of Independence was commemorated in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo as well.

The series of ceremonies held on the occasion of October 23 started with a commemoration which was jointly organized by the Hungarian, Polish, Czech and Slovak embassies in Sarajevo, where the soldiers on their tour of duty abroad celebrated together with the representatives of local diplomatic corps.

On October 19, the Hungarian troops serving in Bosnia-Herzegovina lined up at a ceremonial staff meeting held in Camp Butmir in honor of the 1956 Revolution and War of Independence. At the ceremony it was stated that on October 23, besides celebrating the Hungarian people’s freedom fight against the dictatorship and Soviet occupation – which is one of the key events in Hungary’s 20th century history – we also commemorate the anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Hungary.

The series of ceremonial events closed with a true Hungarian-style dinner, as – to the personnel’s great delight – beef stew was served on the tables, and the personnel of the HDF EUFOR Contingent consumed it jointly with the Hungarian soldiers serving at the EUFOR and NATO Headquarters.
