The EUFOR troops in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina recently commemorated the victims of wars.

The day of remembrance – a tribute to soldiers killed in action and civilians who died in the wars – commenced with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monuments to peacekeepers who had fallen in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Several high-ranking guests were in attendance at the ceremony, after which the soldiers continued the commemoration with a sport program.

The teams entering the Combat Fitness Challenge, held by Marines’ traditions, were competing in multiple events which required strength, skills and stamina. Ranging from a one-mile-run to patient evacuation, the tasks tested the members of the eight participating teams also in weight-lifting, crawling and ammo box carrying.

The competition was tight and had a good atmosphere. It was won by a Hungarian team – WO Tamás Zsíros, WO Imre Ádám, SSgt. Tamás Erdei, SSgt. Patrik Horváth and Cpl. Tamás Varga –, which beat two Austrian teams. The other Hungarian team – 1st Lt. Pál Kajor, WO Csaba Szabó, SFC István Szikszai and Cpl. Gyula Molnár – came in fourth, beating a Bosnian team and those of the Austrian and US contingents.
