Exercise “Szentes Halberd 2014” Starts on River Tisza
Szöveg: honvedelem.hu / MTI | 2014. június 21. 11:02Soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces are practicing river crossing operations at the water base near Szentes, the Land Forces Chief of the HDF Joint Force Command told Hungarian News Agency MTI at a press conference held on Tuesday, June 17 during Exercise “Szentes Halberd 2014”.
Brig.-Gen. Dr. Gábor Böröndi said that the exercise, which had started on Monday, has the objective of thoroughly training the soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces in river crossing operations. The BTR-80 APCs and the PTS-M amphibious combat vehicles are excellently suitable for this task, he added.
During the training, which is to end on September 18, the soldiers are practicing riverine navigation and preparing for force-level hasty crossing of River Tisza behind enemy lines. Meanwhile, the engineer subunits of the Hungarian Defence Forces are practicing the construction of a bridge with sufficient load-carrying capacity for the crossing of heavy military vehicles.
Until September, close to 800 soldiers are going to participate in the exercise which has just started. Brig.-Gen. Böröndi emphasized that besides helping the preparation of the Hungarian Defence Forces, this exercise is also suitable for conducting disaster relief operations.
