On Thursday, 18 August 2016, Col. László Garas, commander of the Hungarian NATO Force Integration Unit welcomed Lieutenant Commander David M. Mrosek (US NAVY), the first US officer arriving to the NFIU.

As Colonel Karolyn I. Hooper, commander of the United States Army NATO Brigade had stated earlier in April when visiting the Hungarian unit; the United States fully supports the operation of the NFIUs and therefore will contribute three U.S. military personnel to the Hungarian command to foster interoperability and jointness.

˝As a new member of the NFIU-family, I am excited and looking forward to my assignment here. It is a great opportunity for me to be a part of a brand new organisation and hopefully utilize my experience and expertise to assist in developing the NFIU HUN mission and provide reach-back support from the US military" – said LCDR. Mrosek, who arrived at Székesfehérvár unaccompanied.

During his 19-year military career, LCDR Mrosek has served in a wide range of operational and joint billets that should make him a valuable member of the NFIU HUN J2 team as an intelligence analyst. As a Naval Intelligence officer at COMMANDSEVENTHFLT in 2011-2013, he updated standard operating procedures for all intelligence watch standers and implemented new intelligence systems requirements for all US Navy ships operating in the COMSEVENTHFLT area of operations. As the Deputy Director of a NATO Special Operations Forces Fusion Cell in Afghanistan in 2014, he led a 15-man NATO unit in providing real-time intelligence support for NATO and Afghan combat operations.

He has been awarded and decorated numerous times to include two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Joint Commendation Medals; and in 2004 he received the Naval Junior Intelligence Officer of the Year award from Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic.
