The Hungarian-Romanian Mixed Peacekeeping Battalion can look back on a past of 20 years. The command and control of the battalion takes place observing the NATO principles, and the two nations occupy the leading positions on a yearly rotating basis. The Hungarian module of the mixed battalion is drawn from the 3rd Bercsényi Miklós Infantry Battalion of the HDF 5th Bocskai István Infantry Brigade, and the Romanian module from the Arad based 191st Infantry Battalion „Colonel Radu Golescu".

The Battalion stations on the area of the two contributing countries, maintaining their national organisations. Both parties execute the tasks with their own weaponry, equipment and technical devices in service.

Under the command of the mixed battalion an exercise is conducted each year, and the two countries take turns in providing the scene of the event. In addition to practicing the use of the English technical terminology, the preparation of the subunit commanders, their small-subunit-level training, and the joint execution of the tasks given in a hybrid warfare environment are included among the objectives of this year’s „Wise Foresight 2018" multinational tactical exercise.

During the opening ceremony, held on the scene of the exercise, after the hoisting of the nations’ flags, Lieutenant Colonel Mihai Ionita, the Commander of the 191st Infantry Battalion „Colonel Radu Golescu" welcomed the participants. “Make good use of the time available for the exchange of the experiences and the knowledge acquired so far, and then I am sure that we will achieve the objectives set for the exercise" – he pointed out.
