Heroes’ Memorial Inaugurated in Skole
Szöveg: MoD Public Relations Office | 2016. július 19. 8:41The Ministry of Defence Public Relations Office, Hungary’s Consulate General in Uzhhorod and the local government organized a ceremony in Skole on 8 July to inaugurate a memorial erected to commemorate 13 Hungarian soldiers killed in action during a partisan attack on 30 June 1941.
The pieces of the heroes’ memorial, earlier thought to have been lost, have recently been discovered by amateur war grave researcher András Strömpl, a native of Mukacheve and Igor Tschudiyovich, a local history expert in Skole. In what followed, the heads of the Hungarian and Ukrainian central war grave care organizations held a joint site survey, where a decision was made on the restoration of the memorial at the earliest. Oleksy Trenitsch, an advisor to the president of the Skole regional council and Munkacheve sculptor Péter Mattl also joined the works.
The names engraved on the contemporary memorial erected by the comrades are as follows: L/Cpl. József Darcsi, Pvt. Ferenc Fekete, Pvt. Sándor Florek, L/Cpl. János Juhász, Pvt. Ferenc Károly, Pvt. Bernát Liptai, Pvt. András Makkai, Pvt. István Manajló, Pvt. János Stal, L/Cpl. József Szendrei, Pvt. Ferenc Szpodnyi, Pvt. József Takács, Reserve WO György Tar.
The war memorial service works in Skole will continue into the future. According to plans, ae heroes’ plot will be restored, the final resting place of those who died in the Royal Hungarian military hospital No. 503 in Skole and the military field hospital No. 102.
