On the occasion of Hungary’s National Day, 15 March, the members of the EU Military Staff (EUMS) of the European External Action Service (EEAS) held an informal ceremony. The host of the event was Maj.-Gen. László Domján, the military representative of the Hungarian Defence Forces in the EU Military Committee and the NATO Military Committee.

The soldiers serving in the EU Military Staff come from every member state of the European Union, and traditionally host the representatives of all the other nations on the occasion of a given national day in a year.

This year the small, five-member Hungarian military delegation – augmented with the Hungarian colleagues working at other organizational elements of the EEAS – chose 15 March as the date for organizing the event.

Maj.-Gen. László Domján gave an opening speech at the ceremony featuring traditional Hungarian dishes. In his speech, he underlined the importance of cooperation that developed with other nations during the 1848/49 Revolution and War of Independence, and talked about the events of the revolution.

The event was attended, among others, by Rear Admiral Waldemar Głusko, Deputy Director-General of the EU Military Staff.
