Szöveg: Lt.-Col. Márta Iglódi Nagyné | 2017. november 3. 9:00A ceremonial staff meeting was recently held in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo on the occasion of 23 October, Hungary’s National Day. The event was attended by the members of the 21st rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces EUFOR Contingent (EUFOR-21 HUNCON) serving in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Hungarian soldiers serving in individual positions at NATO and EUFOR commands. EUFOR Chief of Staff Brig.-Gen. József Szpisják also honored the staff meeting with his presence.
In his speech delivered at the ceremony, Lt.-Col. György Szabó, the military chaplain of the contingent reminded his audience of the events of October 1956. “Although the revolution was crushed back then, the teachings of 1956 have remained valid to the present day, which are freedom, independence, autonomy, national sovereignty, unity and sense of responsibility. 1956 was an important milestone in the history of Hungary, and its results and lessons are still in evidence today", the lieutenant-colonel said. The staff meeting ended with a ceremonial program and the presentation of awards.
In the afternoon, the commemorative ceremony continued with a company parade, as the subunit had just finished a weeklong Hungarian–Bosnian combined tactical training event in Pazaric.
EUFOR HUNCON Commander Lt.-Col. János Stoszek thanked all members of the company. He said that last month’s events in Tuzla, at the venues of Exercise Quick Response 2017, and now in Pazaric too, had provided the Hungarian troops with opportunities to show their professional skills, and demonstrate their aptitude and tactical readiness.
