Dávid Bakcsi | 2012. január 9. 11:03The leaders of the Bamyan-based Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) recently proposed to hold a security meeting with the nominated personnel of the Hungarian PRT in Kahmard District, which borders on Baghlan Province.
The primary objective of the task was to enhance the effectiveness of operational coordination between the two PRTs in order to improve the security situation of Tala-wa Barfak and Kahmard districts, which belong to two different regions and provinces but are nevertheless geographically and ethnically homogeneous. The NZ PRT, which has been running under civil control for 18 months, was represented by Director Richard Prendergast and Lt.-Col. Brett Wellington, while HUN PRT Deputy Commander Lt.-Col. István Megtért and MFA Second Secretary László Papp, development advisor were present at the talks on behalf of the Hungarian PRT.
The success of the meeting is shown by the fact that the Afghan partners present at the negotiation made a commitment to hold monthly security conferences with the participation of the representatives of neighboring districts. The leaders of the NZ PRT pledged to pay a return visit in January 2012 to the HUN PRT Camp Pannonia, in order to further develop the existing relationship.
