Invitation After Ramadan

Szöveg: kormany.hu |  2011. szeptember 11. 5:43

The commanders of the tenth and eleventh rotations of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT) invited the leaders of the province to a common lunch at the Women’s Affairs Office in Afghanistan. The several guests present at the event included the head of the provincial council (Shura), and an MP of the province as well. The participants thanked the HUN PRT for the cooperation and the invitation.

Men and women were eating together at the event, which is a major step forward, as the members of the two sexes in Afghanistan consume their meals in separate rooms during celebrations since the establishment of the Taliban regime. Following the banquet, thanks to the offering of the HUN PRT commander, sixty-one live sheep were distributed among the invited leaders and their subordinates.

The Ramadan (the month of Fasting) is the ninth month of the lunar calendar, being the holiest one in the Islam world. This calendar includes 11 days less than the Gregorian calendar. This was the month when Allah sent the Qur’an to his prophet, Muhhamad. During Ramadan, Muslims should make amends for past wrongs and observe the Prophet’s teachings. The three days following Ramadan are national holidays in Islamic countries. In 2011, this period, known as the Eid by its Arabic name, started on August 30. “Eid" is a word of Arabic origin that means “coming together" or “festivity". The three days after the fasting are called “The Smaller Eid" in Afghanistan. Forty days after them comes the “Greater Eid", a four-day public holiday.
