In addition to the start of the pre-deployment trainings for the sixth rotations of the National Support Element (NSE) and the Logistic Mentor Team (LMT) serving in Afghanistan as well as the next rotations of the United Nations’ UNIFIL (Lebanon) and the European Union’s EUSEC (Congo) missions, the new mission-specific training for the HDF Deployable CIS Module has also commenced.
Within the training program, the soldiers coming from the units of the Hungarian Defence Forces receive basic training in peace support operations and battlefield awareness. On the first day of the training Security Policy Analyst Péter Tálas, the Director of the National University of Public Service Institute for Strategic Defence Studies held a presentation for the personnel of the NSE and the LMT on the historical background to the Afghanistan conflict and the current political situation.
The upcoming presentations will introduce the participants of the training to the military geographical assessment of a given battlefield, the progress of the operations as well as their legal background, and will provide them with an insight into basic peacekeeping techniques such as the operation of checkpoints and observation posts, convoy security and counter-ambush tactics.
On the CIMIC course the participants will receive mission-specific cultural awareness training. The leaders will attend training sessions in negotiation techniques while the personnel under their command will practice the relevant force protection drills. After receiving instruction and hands-on training in the rules of radio communication in English, the training personnel of the DCM will execute the prescribed assault rifle and pistol target practices.
Furthermore, during the training the personnel volunteering for service abroad will be given an overview of their future positions in the missions. The soldiers who recently returned from their tour of duty abroad will give them presentations on the so-called “lessons learned sharing" day.
