Making Great Progress in a Couple of Days
Szöveg: MAT-3 | 2014. október 20. 10:02The advisors to the Afghan Border Police from the third rotation of the HDF Military Advisory Team (MAT-3) recently participated in an extraordinary live fire exercise. The advisors’ duties include increasing efficiency in the supported unit, so the advisory teams organize and manage various training events.
Some weeks ago the commander of the heavy weapons company of the Afghan Border Police 806th Zone Command made such a request to senior advisor Lt.-Col. Gábor Farkas. The Romanian-made PSL scoped rifles of the company have so far lain unused in the armories. The operating mechanism of this weapon is similar to that of the assault rifle and its telescopic sight resembles the PSO–1 optical sight of the SVD (Dragunov) scoped sniper rifle in service with the Hungarian Defence Forces, so the advisors granted the request and led by Lt.-Col. Farkas, they scheduled a training session to address the needs. The training itself was running between September 22 and 28.
During the academic training, the senior advisor and the training advisor taught ballistics, aiming and range-finding methods to the border guard policemen. The course was attended by more than 20 Afghan trainees and the command group of the company, which shows their interest in the training sessions and the topics. The classroom training was closed with a weapon familiarization session. While on the range, the border guard policemen had opportunity to put into practice what they had learned.
Maj. Esmatullah, the company commander inspected the target practice and tested the weapon too. He said he was satisfied with what he saw, and asked the MAT to carry on with the cooperation. Lt.-Col. Farkas and Maj. Esmatullah agreed that the practice was useful and that all the trainees made great progress in marksmanship in a couple of days.
