Under a Hungarian–American bilateral cooperation agreement, the Budapest-based Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) organized a three-day Junior Officer Development training course which was hosted by the HDF Peace Support and Training Center between July 9–11.

The course was run by a three-strong team consisting of US Marines. The leader of the team was Lt.-Col. Steven Wolf, Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Regiment, 2nd Marines, and its members were Maj. Benjamin Wagner, Battalion Operations Officer, 2nd Battalion and Nicholas A. Deabreu, Battalion Sergeant Major, 2nd Battalion. The training audience comprised 19 young officers – most of them holding the rank of lieutenant/first lieutenant – who came from 15 different units of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

The three-day program included presentations, informal discussions and situational training sessions. In presenting the topics of their presentations and the syndicate work, the speakers adopted an approach which reflected the viewpoint of the US Marine Corps, the Marines’ core values, traditions, norms and standards.

After the event, the participants returned to their units with useful experience and knowledge under their belt, which will help them work more effectively in cooperation with the NCO Corps and sharpen their own leadership skills.
