Medal Parade by the Ancient Ruins
Szöveg: P. L. | 2012. március 17. 6:31The medal parade for Sector 4 of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) took place on the last day of February. Forty-five Hungarian soldiers received the so-called “Silver Numbers” at the event.
The soldiers who serve for more than six months on the island are recognized according to the traditions of the given nation. Thus the peacekeepers of the Hungarian Defence Forces received “Silver Numbers", while the Slovakians “Veteran Medals" on this great occasion.
The leadership of Sector 4 chose the ancient Salamis Ruins with a special atmosphere as the venue for the Medal Parade, to recognize the peacekeepers’ efforts in this way. The troops of the multinational battalion lined up in the area of the theater with semi-circular terraced rows in the light of the setting sun, and listened to the words of appreciation from Sector Commander Lt.-Col. Josef Panko and UNFICYP Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Chao Liu.
It was Dr. Balázs Botos, Hungary’s ambassador to Cyprus and Lt.-Col. Péter Lukács, the commander of the contingent who handed over the Silver Numbers to the Hungarian soldiers.
