Medina by Night

A 3D radar tower is also a good sight to see – especially by night.

It might as well be a postcard – a somewhat ghostly and a bit futuristic structure with a
radome beneath the starry sky. The radar operates even at this time of the day, by night as
well – for the time being, on a test run –, while various measurements are being carried out
continuously.

The radar by night

The 3D radar of Medina is expected to enter service with the Hungarian Defence Forces at the
end of 2014. According to those in authority, it is possible to shorten the test run period of the
Medina radar shown in the photos by utilizing the lessons learned during the test runs of the
radar stations at Békéscsaba and Bánkút.

It is also a good sight to see…

At any rate, it is a fact that the evaluation process for the 3D radars to enter service was
completed last December, so with end of the test run, a new chapter will open in the history of
air surveillance in Hungary.
