For the fifth time, Vice Admiral Samardzic Dragan, the Chief of the General Staff of the Montenegrin armed forces arrived for a three-day visit at the camp of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT) in Afghanistan.

The Montenegrin soldiers joined the HUN PRT in March 2010. The core mission of the 34 troops serving with the fifth rotation is Force Protection (guard duties), and some of them serve in individual positions too.

On the first day the vice-admiral had discussions with Lt.-Col. János Somogyi. The HUN PRT commander praised the Montenegrin soldiers’ discipline, high professional standards and reliable performance of duties. János Somogyi noted that wherever the representatives of the HUN PRT go, they always stress the fact that it is an international community of which the Montenegrin personnel serving in Camp Pannonia form an important part. The admiral’s program continued with a tour of the camp that offered an opportunity to inspect the soldiers’ living conditions.

Speaking at the afternoon staff meeting, Samardzic Dragan thanked the soldiers for their exemplary conduct and professional work. On the second day he paid a visit to the girl’s school of the town which is named after Queen Ghawar Begun Shad, and presented a donation of school supplies and computers to the students. In his speech delivered at the ceremony, Vice Admiral Samardzic said that children have the right to education in all parts of the world. The pupils thanked him for the gifts with smiles, flowers and traditional Afghan songs.

Before his departure, Samardzic Dragan said thanks for the soldier’s work once again. “I’m returning home with a feeling of contentment and satisfaction, as I can see that the service personnel know their duties and form a useful part of the HUN PRT" – this was how the Chief of Defence of the Montenegrin armed forces said farewell to the soldiers.
