NATO Chiefs of Defence Meeting in Brussels

Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, the Chief of the Defence Staff is participating in the Chiefs of Defence meeting of the North Atlantic Alliance at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels on January 16 and 17.

At the meeting, in addition to the 28 member states, Chiefs of Defence from several partner
countries of the Alliance will be attending the discussion of the items on the agenda, which
include the NATO partnership cooperation and the current operations conducted together
with partner nations. Accordingly, in their respective meeting formats the Chiefs of Defence
are to hold the first session with the countries of the Mediterranean Dialogue and the second
one with the partners participating in the NATO-led operations conducted in Afghanistan and
Kosovo.

In a separate session, the Chiefs of Defence will meet the Chief of Defence of the Russian
Federation to approve the military cooperation plan between NATO and Russia for 2013.

Beyond the issues of partnership and operations, the Chiefs of Defence Meeting will discuss
the issues related to the renewal (transformation) of the Alliance’s military capabilities, which
will have an effect on sustaining and developing NATO’s military power, efficiency and
response capability after the significant drawdown of the ISAF operation in Afghanistan in
2014.
