No Hungarian soldiers were injured in the bomb attack which was carried out on Thursday, February 7 in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence informed Hungarian News Agency MTI.

The Ministry of Defence told MTI that the explosion occurred 3-4 kilometers from Camp
Pannonia, the base of the Hungarian troops. The Chinese news agency Xinhua reported that a
bomb went off in Pol-e Khomri, the seat of Baghlan Province in Northern Afghanistan. The
English-language online newspaper Khaame Press understands that it is yet not clear if the
“relatively heavy" explosion took place as a result of a roadside bomb blast or it was a suicide
attack.

„Local security officials have not commented regarding the incident so far but local residents
and eye witnesses in the area are saying at least one person was injured in the explosion", the
Afghan news portal reported, adding that the blast presumably caused damage to a number
of local shops and houses. No group has so fair claimed responsibility for the attack. Earlier
a bomb had gone off in Kunduz, Northern Afghanistan, in front of the provincial governor’s
house, Xinhua was told by an official who did not want his name mentioned.

Since 2006, Hungary has been operating a provincial reconstruction team (PRT) in Baghlan
Province, Northern Afghanistan. Among others, the Hungarians have built roads, health
centers, schools, wells, micro power plants, and participated in training the local security
forces as well as in flood control operations. The PRT is expected to finish working in the
spring of 2013, when its currently deployed 110 soldiers will return home.
