The goals of the event were to popularize KFOR and to introduce the cultures of troop contributing nations to visitors.

The participants of the open day included interested local people besides the soldiers and their invited family members. The display of the Hungarian national parachuting team was a real spectacle, since the team members parachuted to the HQ, carrying the flags of KFOR and NATO.

Naturally, the KFOR soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces also participated in the event. They traveled from Camp Slim Lines by two BTR-80 armored personnel carriers (APCs) and a Mercedes-Benz truck to participate in the displays. The CIMIC cell and the soldiers serving in individual positions at the HQ set up a stand which introduced Hungary’s history and culture, attracting a lot of visitors.

KFOR has been present in the country on the Balkans since 1999. With the establishment of favorable democratic institutions and the generation of the country’s own law enforcement capabilities, today the initially 50,000-strong force has a total strength of only 4,800, as the improving security situation in the country enables KFOR to continuously hand over its responsibilities to the local forces.
