On 18 January, in the HDF Peace Support Training Centre (HDF PSTC, Szolnok) forty-one soldiers started a four-week pre-deployment training program in preparation for the mission of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). They are going to form the 39th rotation of the Hungarian contingent serving on the island.

Most members of the training audience had already arrived at the Szolnok unit on 1 January in order to take part in an English language course.

Concurrent with the UNFICYP training program, the HDF PSTC launched another pre-deployment training for the designated personnel of a new rotation of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM).

The soldiers preparing for the two missions first attended theoretical lessons in subjects such as theatre awareness, map-reading, military geography and international law of armed conflict, and then, starting from 21 January, they executed a peacekeeping target practice with pistols and assault rifles (Our photos were taken on that occasion).

On 2 February, six Serbian servicemen are going to join the training program. They will be co-deployed with the troops of the Hungarian contingent serving in Cyprus. The Serbians will also receive theoretical lessons in theatre awareness, and will participate in signals and patrol practices.

The special training of the personnel designated for the Force Military Police Unit (FMPU) will be running in parallel with the other training programs, with the assistance of a British military policeman who is currently serving in Cyprus.

The Hungarian–Serbian joint unit will conduct the culmination exercise of the pre-deployment training in the Táborfalva military training area of the HDF Bakony Combat Training Centre between 8–11 February.
