Rattle Of The Arms On The Velence Beach

The Lake Velence Summer Games is held for the fourth time on the north beach of Lake Velence. The program also includes the introduction of the military recruitment office and the flight simulator, as well as the tactical and self-defence demonstration of the second year students of the Bolyai Faculty of Zrínyi Miklós University of National Defence.

The recruitment camion and the flight simulation vehicle of MoD Zrínyi Non-profit Co. put up their tents next to the big stage on the beach, so it was not difficult to find the military programs. The youngsters and the children were the most interested in the weapons on display: it was a big adventure for them that they were allowed to touch or even take apart – as much as they could – the guns they had only seen in movies before. The simulator was in continuous operation. Even though the helpers gave many warnings and advice, it was all in vain, for on this day only very few ‘planes’ could return to the airport and land safely on the concrete.

The first part of the demonstration was tactical: a small group of soldiers were patrolling an area of operations when they were attacked. They returned the fire and managed to annihilate the attackers. The demonstration attracted the attention of the children on the beach and they were watching every move the soldiers made. Of course, there were a few ‘speakers’ who, relying on their knowledge from the movies, explained their friends what was happening. The hot weather made the troops participating in the demonstration sweat a bit, but in spite of the heat, they were thoroughly preparing for the second round where first they held self-defence demonstration in pairs, then formed platoons and performed spectacular self-defence routines. Naturally, what the children appreciated the most was when the troops were firing rounds – a lot of kids turned into relic hunters immediately. The demonstration was still in progress when they were already busy looking for the shells scattered in the grass.

One last weapons check, and the troops could return to their coaches to start their weekend rest.
