“Shaping the Change”
Szöveg: Lt. Csaba Búz | 2016. február 29. 10:13The 14th rotation of the HDF KFOR Contingent (KFOR-14 HUNCON) has started its six-month tour of duty in Kosovo. The change of command ceremony was attended by DCOM KFOR Brig.-Gen. Ferenc Korom and Dr. László Márkusz, Hungary’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kosovo.
The transportation of Hungarian peacekeepers to two towns of Kosovo – namely, Pristina and Novo Selo – took place in several phases, so the handover-takeover of the tasks between the 13th and 14th rotations had already started three weeks earlier. Most soldiers of the outgoing and the incoming contingents are drawn from the HDF 5th Bocskai István Infantry Brigade.
At the ceremony, the transfer of command was symbolized by Lt.-Col. Attila Enyedi’s handing over the flag of the contingent to Lt.-Col. Ferenc Huszár, which marked the end of service of the 13th rotation.
At present, there are more than 4,500 troops from 31 nations serving in KFOR’s area of operations in the Balkans in individual positions or with various units. The Hungarian peacekeepers have served in the Western Balkans since 1995.
The Kosovo Force (KFOR) is an international peacekeeping force under NATO command, in which Hungary has been participating since its accession to NATO in 1999. The Hungarian KFOR contingent – besides the command group and the staff as well as the logistic and support elements – contributes two maneuver companies to the international peacekeeping mission. KFOR’s core task is to maintain security and public order in Kosovo.
