Exercise “European Wind 2012”, one of this year’s largest international training programs has started in Gemona del Friuli, Italy. Around 240 Hungarian troops are participating in the two-week event.

At the opening ceremony held on May 21, Brig.-Gen. Giovanni Manione, the commander of the Alpine Brigade Julia welcomed the Italian, Slovenian and Hungarian soldiers participating in the exercise. The commander spoke of the tasks ahead and expressed his hope that the exercise would be successfully completed.

Around 240 Hungarian soldiers have come from the HDF Joint Force Command and its assigned military organizations to participate in the two-week Exercise “European Wind 2012". Most of the Hungarians serve with the HDF 5th ‘Bocskai István’ Infantry Brigade in Debrecen.

The executing subunits are deployed on three locations: Gemona, Osoppo and Molino Rainis provide temporary accommodation for the troops. The objectives of the two-week exercise are to build cohesion in the Force Headquarters and among the executing personnel; and to train them to be able to reach Full Operational Capability (FOC). As a result, the EU Battle Group is to reach FOC by May 31, which the evaluation team of the nations will certify by conducting a CREVAL process.
