“We must respond to the challenges right at the place and time where and when they emerge, because this is the only way to prevent them from spreading to regions that would directly threaten our homeland” – Brig.-Gen. János Huszár, the Land Forces Chief of the HDF Joint Force Command said at the Welcome Home and Farewell Ceremony held in Székesfehérvár on Wednesday, February 29.

It has been revealed that the 34th rotation of the mixed contingent comprising policemen and soldiers is about to deploy in an unstable region with the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in the Sinai Peninsula.

Brig.-Gen. János Huszár stressed that during the pre-deployment training the experts had done their best to ensure that the personnel can perform their duties properly in a constantly “changing and deteriorating security environment".

“This is especially important in these days when the “Bedouin lords of the peace triangle" who have made a fortune in drugs trafficking are threatening the peace of the region through their serious actions. They have identified contacts with terrorist organizations and are seriously threatening the relations between Israel and Egypt. These groups pose a threat to the troops deployed in peacekeeping missions too", the Land Forces Chief said.

At the event Brig.-Gen. János Huszár handed over tokens of appreciation to Maj. László Béla Gőcze and Maj. József Zsolt Ferenczi, who have recently returned from the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

Today around 1,000 Hungarian troops participate in international crisis management and peacekeeping in 17 different missions in 13 countries on three continents.
