The Institute and Museum of Military History (IMMH) is one of Hungary’s most frequented institutions. Last year its exhibitions attracted 68,000 visitors, and more than 80,000 this year, said Minister of Defence Csaba Hende at the 75th anniversary celebration of the institution in Budapest on Friday, November 23.

Csaba Hende said that the first permanent exhibition of the Museum of Military History had opened in 1937, following almost two decades of very hard preparatory work. With this opening, the community of the museum staff was irrevocably formed, and this community has been working to preserve the military history and traditions of the Hungarian nation, the Minister added.

He stressed that the Institute and Museum of Military History is an especially important element in the system of national defence, and that the Ministry of Defence has the responsibility for running it successfully. The museum provides a well-founded background to developing the sense of Hungarian military identity, and it strengthens by its own means the esprit de corps among the members of the armed forces, the Minister added.

In addition to the Minister of Defence, Tamás Vargha, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence also attended the ceremony.
