As the ISAF mission is to be completed on December 31, the successful accomplishment of operational tasks marks the end of the engagement of the Hungarian Defence Forces in this form and structure in Afghanistan. In accordance with its earlier international commitment, Hungary continues to participate in the training of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), so that they can reach the strategic objective of being capable of independent operations. The well-trained advisors and mentors of the Hungarian Defence Forces are to stay on in Afghanistan, but the focus of their activity is going to shift to the region of northern Afghanistan, Mazar-e Sharif and the capital city of Kabul.

Two Hungarian advisory teams will continue operating within the transforming but still NATO-led “Resolute Support" Mission, which focuses mainly on military advisory activities and support. They will be assigned to the Train, Advise and Assist Command North (TAAC N). Like before, their primary mission will be to train and mentor the personnel of the 3rd brigade of the Afghan Civil Order Police (ANCOP) and the 806th Border Police Zone Command. Several staff officers will serve in individual positions in the staff of a coalition of 17 nations, and they will participate in mentoring a corps staff of the Afghan National Army (ANA) and also in the activity of a German-led ROLE-2E hospital.

The records of transfer on the handover of operational tasks and military equipment were signed at a ceremony held on December 3 in Camp Marmal. While handing over the tasks, Col. István Juhász thanked the soldiers of the MAT-3 for their dedicated work and wished every success with future task execution to the commanders of the two advisory groups taking over the tasks, Col. Péter Balogh and Lt.-Col. Tibor Korcsák, and to the commander of the HDF Force Protection (FP) Platoon, Capt. Richárd Bartha.
