Tvrtko: ’My Role Models Are The Hungarian Soldiers Serving In Afghanistan’

Defence Minister Imre Szekeres was accompanied by a celebrity again on his visit to Afghanistan: this time, popular television reporter and host Vujity Tvrtko was travelling with the group to the Asian country to visit Hungarian troops serving thousands of kilometres away from their homeland.

The programme schedule of the ministerial delegation paying a visit
to the Hungarian Provincial Reconstruction Team serving in Afghanistan
was busy. We have managed to talk with Vujity Tvrtko, who had arrived
with the group, for a few minutes on the telephone.

Upon the inquiry of honvedelem.hu, Tvrtko said that together with
Defence Minister Imre Szekeres he visited the Hungarian troops serving
in Puli Khumri. He held a presentation and a meeting with the audience
for the members of the Hungarian PRT working in Baghlan province,
during which the books written by him in recent years were also
mentioned, of course.

"My real role models are the Hungarian soldiers serving in
Afghanistan. When speaking about these people, I can tell my little boy
without hesitation: I would like you to be just like these men and
women are" – said Vujity Tvrtko, according to whom Hungary needs role
models like these soldiers, who – unfortunately, literally in the
current year – have given their lives and blood for the security of the
world.

The popular television reporter and host had prepared a surprise as
well for the soldiers serving at a great distance from their home. With
his wife Gyöngyi Zsolnay, a former member of the national basketball
team, a few years ago they founded the ’Weekday Heroes Award’, handed
over every December to those who are eligible. As Tvrtko put it: this
is Hungary’s ’most civilian’ award, since there is absolutely no way to
apply for it.

"This year, the award was given to ’the Hungarian soldier serving
in Afghanistan’. In other words, the soldier who used to serve here, is
serving here, or will participate in an Afghanistani mission in the
future" – told us the television host, who is still in the Asian
country.

Moreover, Vujity Tvrtko had taken a field library worth
hundreds of thousands of forints with himself to the Hungarian camp
located at Puli Khumri – due to the kind contribution of Alexandra
publishing house. Thus the contingent received numerous books, CDs, and
DVDs. "I am very proud of getting here. It is one of the most important
meetings of my life" – said Vujity Tvrtko to honvedelem.hu upon
finishing our conversation.
