The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) Mobile Force Reserve (MFR) recently organized a 10-kilometer running race in the United Nations Protected Area (UNPA), Nicosia.

The organizers of the sports events created a multinational environment so that the competitors can test their physical condition and stamina under such circumstances. Each UNFICYP sector entered the race with a six-member team. Being strenuous due to a significant height difference, the distance to be covered was a serious mental and physical challenge for all soldiers.

Besides the British, Argentine, Norwegian, Austrian, Serb and Slovak sportsmen, some members of the UNFICYP Hungarian contingent (UNFICYP HUN CON) also entered the race. Defying the temperature that was unusually high for February, the Hungarian runners completed the distance in a good time.
