Winter Medal Parade in Cyprus

Twice every year the Headquarters of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) organizes a ceremony in which the troops serving with the mission are awarded UN peacekeeping medals.

This year the winter medal parade took place in Nicosia in early February. At the event, the UNFICYP leaders – Elizabeth Spehar and Maj.-Gen. Mohammad Humayun Kabir – as well as Brig.-Gen. Gábor Horváth, Acting Chief of Land Forces, HDF Joint Force Command decorated the soldiers, pinning on their uniforms the “small colored ribbons" that symbolize the Mediterranean Sea (UN blue with dark blue edged white centre stripe).

Besides the UNFICYP leadership, Brig.-Gen. Gábor Horváth and the delegation led by him met Lt.-Col. Rudolf Eštók, the commander of Sector 4 and the soldiers of the Hungarian contingent at patrol base 91, in Nicosia, Famagusta and Athienou.
