Working Lunch with the President of the Council
Szöveg: Lt. Grácia Komor | 2013. augusztus 11. 9:42Shaban Ahmeti – the president of the minority council of Podujevo Municipality in the area of responsibility of the Hungarian Liaison and Monitoring Team (LMT) deployed in Kosovo – is also the local leader of the Roma, Ashkali, Egyptian (RAE) minority political party. He recently invited the soldiers of the Hungarian LMT to a working lunch.
Shaban Ahmeti has been filling both positions for close to15 years, and is held in high esteem all around the municipality. As president of the minority council, he is responsible both for the RAE minority and the Serb enclave. The monthly meetings focus on the changes and issues in the life of the minority and their solutions. The commander of the Hungarian LMT regularly attends these meetings, just like Radislav Perovic, the leader of the Serb enclave and the representatives of the RAE minorities.
During the war, the Roma communities were supporting the Kosovo Albanians against Serb oppression, so their social inclusion has become easier over the years. Several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are present in the municipality to assist them. One of the most significant of these NGOs is QENDRIMI, which is responsible for helping Roma schoolchildren in their studies and remedial education.
The working lunch was taken at the Restaurant Adriatiku, on the shore of Lake Batlava. Shaban Ahmeti thanked the Hungarian LMT for its work, and expressed hope for maintaining the good relations in the future too.
