The combined training program for participants is in full swing at Exercise Clever Ferret 2017. In the second half of the two-week training event series of the Multinational Land Force (MLF) the members of the training audience are giving proof of their close professional cooperation during the execution of complex tasks.

Composed of Hungarian, Italian and Slovenian troops, the second half of the exercise of the Multinational Land Force (MLF) includes a number of exciting training sessions on land and in the air alike. During the execution of combined tasks, the participants from three nations are already using one another’s items of military equipment to conduct coordinated activities in the Bakony Hills.

The personnel of multinational companies executing the tactical tasks of the exercise were practicing the tasks involved in launching a counterattack from a defensive position. Captain Norbert Benkó, Commanding Officer, ALPHA Company told us that “we are placing the main emphasis on conventional warfare, including offensive and defensive maneuvers as well as seizing objectives and searching areas. It is very good and useful for us to have the opportunity to work together with armored cavalry or snipers of other nations at this exercise", Capt. Benkó said, adding that the Hungarian fire support elements, that is, the mortar and ATGW teams have already learnt a lot of lessons and will surely learn even more in the rest of the exercise. Besides, foreign troops may also have a lot to learn from the Hungarians. “The different types of tactical procedures have novelty value for soldiers of other nations. We can show them many new FIBUA tactics as well", Capt. Benkó said.

In spite of operating with such strengths and under such circumstances that are different from the home ones, there is perfect harmony among the soldiers of the multinational ALPHA and BRAVO companies carrying out the tactical tasks of the exercise, as they can understand the tasks quickly and easily. To further increase interoperability, during a training event Italian helicopters airlifted the Hungarian fire support units to the area of operations, while the Italian mortar and ATGW teams were inserted by Hungarian helicopters. In the latter case, a Mi-17 helicopter of the Hungarian Defence Forces transported a 120mm Italian mortar as externally slung load.
