The Hungarian “Silver Bird” Landed in Afghanistan

One of the A319 troop transport aircraft of the Hungarian Defence Forces landed at the Airport located in Camp Marmal, Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan on 15th September. The “Silver Bird” arrived from the HDF 59th “Szentgyörgyi Dezső” Air Base, Kecskemét to Afghanistan, for the Hungarian soldiers, who finished their tour of duty abroad, or were going home on leave.

The aircraft and her crew were received by the soldiers of the HDF National Support Element Afghanistan at the airport. Following this, Colonel Zoltán Rumi, the outgoing Senior National Representative (SNR) of the Hungarian soldiers serving in Afghanistan – at the transfer of authority ceremony held for the command staff – thanked for the work of the servicemen stationing in the Afghanistan area of operation (AO).

Colonel Rumi – as a recognition for their conscientious and outstanding work – presented tokens of appreciation to Lieutenant Colonel László Oláh, Lieutenant Colonel Péter Futó, Lieutenant Colonel Ferenc Hornyacsek, Captain Ádám Schőn, Ensign Gabriella Papp and Sergeant Major István Urbán. The Hungarian troops serving in Afghanistan thanked Colonel Rumi for the joint work with a memorial plaque.

The responsibilities of the Senior National Representative of the Hungarian soldiers engaged in the Afghanistan operation will be assumed by Lieutenant Colonel László Dóra, the Top Adviser of the Afghan Border Forces (ABF) as from 16th September.
