The Hungarian soldiers stationing in the Kosovo operation area also took part in the traditional „Dancon March” conducted at the beginning of April.

The DANCON March, that is the march of the Danish Contingent, was organised for the first time in 1972, in Cyprus by the soldiers of the Royal Danish Army. The 25 km long distance designated among the hills had to be completed in six hours at that time. Since then, the Dancon March has been organised in all those areas of operation (AOs) – for example in Cyprus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan – where Danish soldiers perform military service. In Kosovo the event was first conducted in August 1999.

Besides the nations serving in KFOR, also the police officers, the civilian employees of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), the Kosovo Police and the EULEX Mission could apply for the march held at the beginning of April. Among the nearly 400 participants more than seventy Hungarian soldiers participated in the challenging test of strength.

The togetherness of nations shows well that the soldiers of the 20th Rotation of the HDF KFOR Contingent (EUFOR-20 HUNCON) actively participated in the implementation of the event, as they operated medical care points and control points as well. The more than 25-kilometre-long route starting from Camp Novo Selo, passing over the surrounding hills had to be completed above and beyond the personal weapon and the protective equipment, by carrying a minimum of ten kg extra weight in uniform and boots. The servicemembers, who successfully covered the designated route – within the given time limit – were awarded a medal and a certificate.

The application for the march took place on a voluntary basis, the organisers support the Danish veterans and their families from the amount left from the entry fees.
