A festive year-closing ceremony was held in the Budapest Honvéd Sports Association on Tuesday, December 13. On this occasion the sportsmen and their coaches who have achieved outstanding results at the world competitions in 2011 received tokens of appreciation.

The event was highlighted by the attendance of the Social Chairman of the Association, the MoD Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. István Simicskó and the Senior Chairman of the Sports Association Gábor Kunszt.

Dr. István Simicskó expressed his gratitude for the excellent sports activities of the sportsmen exerted this year, as in spite of the difficulties they can boast with successes, he said.

The State Secretary underlined that thanks are due to them for the perseverance, the struggle and the sacrifices made. In what followed he gave his opinion on three types of people: those who do not undertake struggle, balking at difficulties, the hedonists, and those who are purposeful, willing to struggle, committed to the community, and respect themselves.

Thinking that the BHSE sportsmen belong to the last group, Dr. István Simicskó referred to the year 2012, which will be an Olympic year, saying that they expect much of the members of the Association at the great test of strength, and they would like to be proud of them again, like before. Then the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Portfolio added to this as an appreciation and encouragement, that despite the narrow circumstances and the strict austerity measures, the Ministry tried to reward the sportsmen’s achievements with a modest award, devoting time and attention to one another.

This year our Honvéd sportsmen won ten gold medals, six silver medals and one bronze medal on the European Championship, and on the World Championship they gained nine gold, three silver and three bronze medals. Recognizing these great successes, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence Dr. István Simicskó handed over tokens of appreciation to eighteen fencer and judoist fellow sportsman and sportswoman, at the same time he conveyed the Season’s Greetings to them on behalf of the Sports Chairmen and the Ministry. Finally he wished successful preparation, and outstanding performance to all the sportsmen of the Honvéd Association at the Olympic Games, with medals abound.
