Since 1994, the HDF Support Brigade has regularly organized the International Regional Patrol Championship, so the 2011 championship was the 17th one in this series. By tradition, the international regional patrol championship has three categories, the first being the international competition of garrison commands. This year, in spite of their sustained efforts, the teams from the garrison commands of Berlin, Prague and Warsaw were unable to beat the Hungarians. The runner-up was the Prague team while the Warsaw one was placed third in this category.

Three teams entered the second category, i.e. the regional women’s competition. The winner of the contest was the team of the Hungarian National Police HQ, whereas the runner-up the team of the HDF Support Brigade. The team of the Hungarian Prison Service HQ was placed third.

In the third category – i.e. the regional men’s competition – the teams of six armed organizations competed, namely the HDF Support Brigade, the National Police HQ (ORFK), the Budapest Metropolitan Police HQ, the Civil Protection Directorate of Budapest, the Fire Department of Budapest and the Hungarian Prison Service HQ. The gold medalists were the patrolmen of the ORFK, the team of the HDF Support Brigade came in second, while the team of the Fire Department of Budapest received the bronze medal.

Regardless of the categories, the patrol teams left with 10-minute intervals, according to a pre-arranged start list. This year too, the men first had to cover a 16-km distance and find the control points on the way, while the women had to accomplish the same task over a distance of 11 kilometers. This event was followed by a live fire exercise. The third event was hand-grenade throwing while the fourth was carrying an injured comrade.

Col. Lóránt Labádi handed over the prizes to the teams during the announcement of the results in the afternoon hours.
