Ministerial Visit to the Hungarian–Serbian Border Area

On the afternoon of Saturday, 12 September 2015, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó and Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, Chief of Defence paid a visit to the area of the Hungarian–Serbian border to inspect the construction of the Temporary Border Barrier and the command post of Operation Decisive Action 2015.

Construction works are going on at a rapid pace on the Temporary Border Barrier to be built along the Hungarian–Serbian border, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó stated after personally visiting the region.

During his program, Minister Simicskó first paid a visit to the forward command post of the Hungarian Defence Forces Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) in Székesfehérvár. Here he saw a display of the soldiers participating in Operation Decisive Action 2015 which included training for crowd riot control (CRC) tasks to be executed in conjunction with policemen.

During the practice, the Chief of Defence reported to the Minister that the soldiers are ready to carry out the necessary tasks. In what followed, the Minister of Defence flew to the area of Bácsborsód by a military helicopter to see the work of HDF units participating in the construction of the Temporary Border Barrier.

After the visit, Dr. István Simicskó emphasized that there has recently been a significant increase in the number of troops serving along the Hungarian–Serbian border, so currently they number around 4,300.

Minister Simicskó stated that besides stepping up the construction works of the border barrier, the Hungarian Defence Forces have recently got ready to be able to help, by high professional standards, the work of the police as soon as the changes in laws come into force. Due to the character of the task, during the soldiers’ training special emphasis is being laid on increasing their psychological fitness, Dr. István Simicskó said.
