Musical Changing of the Guard in Buda Castle

The first musical Changing of the Guard by the palace guards of the HDF Support Brigade 32nd National Parade Unit took place before a large audience in Buda Castle at noon on Saturday, April 21.

The palace guards’ first musical changing of the guard took place outside Sándor Palace in Buda Castle on Saturday. Organized with the aim of starting a tradition, the event was attended by Brig-Gen. László Szegő, Adjutant-General and Head of the National Defence Department of the Office of the President of the Republic, Brig.-Gen. István Kun Szabó, the Commander of the HDF Support Brigade, the Commander of Budapest garrison and Lt.-Col. Ferenc Kiss, the Deputy Commander of the 32nd National Honvéd Parade Unit, the Commander of the Honvéd Palace Guard. The soldiers preparing for the musical Changing of the Guard spent the three days leading up to it with intensive practice, “formation drills". The Hungarian and foreign visitors in Szent György tér (St. George Square) rewarded the significant event with a big round of applause.

The 75-strong Honvéd Palace Guard took over the protocol guard duties at the Head of State’s residence on January 7, 2012.
