Professional Visit on Board of Destroyer USS Gravely

Rear Admiral Edward Cashman, Commander of Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) received on a professional visit the Commanders of the Hungarian and the Spanish Contingents participating in the Baltic Air Policing mission on board the destroyer USS Gravely.

During the formal visit they discussed the operational capabilities and the co-operation of the NATO units stationing in the Baltic region, the aviation security matters, and they also touched upon the possible future co-operation between NATO’s naval and air units.

"From the national aspect the exchange of information and experiences with the NATO units stationing in the region increases the efficiency of the Hungarian Defence Forces QRA Detachment. I was pleased to welcome General Ugrik, Lieutenant Colonel Martinez and the flight operations specialists on board" – Rear Admiral Cashman said.

Ensuring the safety of flight and maximizing the effectiveness of the air force are essential for the completion of the Standing Maritime Group One’s mission, namely for the maintenance of the maritime security of the region. It is of paramount importance that the NATO units of the Baltic region are characterized by the same optimum co-operation, as the countries composing the Alliance, herself – he added. During the visit the guests had the opportunity to view a simulated air defence exercise.
