The Hungarian troops reached Full Operational Capability (FOC) upon demonstrating their readiness in a complex crowd and riot control (CRC) exercise. The KFOR-14 HUN CON Charlie Company had already completed this exercise with success two weeks before. “Taking into account the performance of our predecessor unit, the US leadership allowed the company HQ to join the planning process. The three-part dynamic action consisted of breaching a heavy obstacle with the help of an engineer unit, and then blocking and finally dispersing a crowd with tear gas", Delta Company Commander Capt. Péter T. told us. During the exercise the free movement on the road was made possible by a Ukrainian freedom of movement detachment (FOMD), with which the Hungarian company will be cooperating in task execution. The opposing force (OPFOR) was made up of members of the German KFOR contingent.
At the end of the spectacular demonstration, Lt.-Col. William Gray, the commander of the Multinational Battle Group East Forward Command Post told us that the exercise had shown that the Hungarian troops are ready to execute any kind of task, and can respond to all contingencies. The lieutenant-colonel added that today we have seen an outstanding exercise.
After the successful closing exercise, both Hungarian companies are deployable for operational tasks. The Kosovo Forces (KFOR) is an international peacekeeping force under NATO command, in which Hungary has been participating since 1999, the year of its accession to NATO. The core mission of KFOR is to maintain security and order in Kosovo.
