The Hungarian troops to deploy with UNFICYP in Cyprus have successfully completed their five-week training program in the HDF Peace Support Training Center and the military training area of Táborfalva. The culmination exercise (CULEX) of the training period was mounted on February 14-15 at Táborfalva. The members of the 31st rotation will leave for the divided insular country on the Mediterranean in mid-March.

The pre-deployment training program for the troops was led by soldiers who had served with the former rotations in Cyprus, so they were able to instruct the members of the 31st rotation by sharing their own experience with them too. Needless to say, during the training they also rehearsed the incidents that the peacekeepers may encounter anytime on their tour of duty.

The contingent to deploy in March is made up of three patrol squads (comprising Hungarian and Serb troops), a military police (MP) team and two military observer and liaison (MOLO) officers, and is augmented with the necessary logistic elements.

During the five-week preparation, the members of the March rotation, besides receiving physical training, had opportunity to prepare themselves mentally for the situations that may arise abroad, and they also practiced the organization and control of patrols and the radio communications.

The five-week training started on January 16 with the participation of 49 Hungarian troops. However, only 36 of them will be posted to serve with the March rotation, the rest of them will form a reserve. In the second half of the training program, eight Serb soldiers joined the Hungarians – six of them will be selected to serve as peacekeepers in Cyprus in the coming months.
