The Head of the MoD Cabinet Office Dr. Gábor Szarka attended the ceremony, and the Deputy Chief of the MoD Defence Staff Lt. Gen. Dr. Zoltán Orosz gave a speech, in which he underlined that the soldiers who lined up there will be the defenders of the Homeland from now on. As he pointed out, the concept of “honvéd" and the ideals associated with it are still the guiding stars in the 21st century, which determine our everyday life. The soldiers sworn in now safeguard the historic oath of the honvéd soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces (the Hungarian national army established in the Freedom Fight of 1848–1849), and the values included therein. “Their military oath is for a lifetime", the lieutenant-general said.
The lieutenant-general added that all this foregoing is a majestic, but an extremely hard task at the same time. He highlighted the activity of the honvéd soldiers serving at home and on missions abroad done in the interest of the security of our Homeland, complying with Hungary’s commitments as a NATO ally. Zoltán Orosz emphasized that at the NCO Academy the soldiers sworn in got an example of camaraderie and of responsibility for one another, which are needed in all circumstances, as the close co-operation of the tight-knit military communities make even the most difficult trials bearable.
“Strengthen yourselves in your commitment to the defence of the Homeland, in faith, in will, in military knowledge, in preparedness! With your outstanding service, be always worthy of the confidence and respect of the society, preserve your uniform and with that, the honour of the Hungarian Defence Forces and of Hungary. To this noble task let me wish you every success, strength–health, soldiers’ luck!" – the general closed his speech.
