The Crews of the Portuguese Exercise Moved up a Gear

The performance of flights goes on within the Hot Blade 2018 Exercise in Portugal at the Beja Airbase. The troops of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base are completing their training tasks in different waves.

At the RUBIK Battalion the NVG (Night Vision Goggle) night training, the restoration of the capability to fly without lights is continued. A new pilot-in-command began his flights with Night Vision Goggle. During the day fast rope descending, tactical spies (Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction) rope and common work was conducted together with the health care personnel. Meanwhile, the Portuguese Land Forces performed static line, high altitude (3000 meter), and manually operated parachute jumps from the Hungarian Mi-17 helicopters. The cooperation between the Hungarian and the Portuguese crews was excellent during the task-executions.

In the middle of the week, the joint air operations began as well, in which the international helicopter formations carried out their tasks supported by fighter planes and together with the Portuguese Special Function Squadrons. The Deputy Commander of one of the operations will be a pilot-in-command designated from the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base personnel, collaborating with the Portuguese fighter pilot Commander.
